Summary:
Aquion Energy is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support our Battery Product Design & Engineering team. This position reports into the Director of Battery Engineering. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with specialists from multiple different subjects (e.g. Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Industrial Design). This position offers an unrivaled opportunity to join a well-funded clean technology start-up at a very exciting stage in its development.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
? Perform engineering analysis, design, and development of battery products or improvements in such areas as mechanical, electrical, and related design functions.
? Conduct engineering calculations and analysis for product designs
? Compile battery design plans and test protocols. Compile and analyze modeling and test data.
? Develop and maintain CAD models to support product development
? Select materials and components, and develop associated specifications.
? Investigate pertinent design factors related to battery design, such as electrical, thermal, shock & vibration, battery sealing, materials & product cost, and design for manufacturing.
? Develop detailed drawings and BOM.
? Design test fixtures and prototypes that enable product development investigations.
? Seek out and obtain technical input from throughout company and from external resources
? Generate and provide technical documentation and product specifications to internal and external customers
Skills & Qualifications:
? BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
? 3-5 years product engineering/design experience, battery experience preferred.
? Engineering analysis and specification writing experience.
? SolidWorks experience, including bottom-up and top-down modeling techniques
? Attention to detail
? Experience with FEA modeling & analysis
? Excellent creativity and problem-solving skills
? Experience working as part of a cross-functional team
? Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T)
? Exposure to ISO drafting standards
? Understanding of a wide variety of fabrication techniques, especially injection molding, machining, and stamping
? Fabrication and prototyping experience a plus
