The Product Designer - Tax position at FuelQuest functions as an analyst and designer for all ongoing tax automation projects. The Product Designer assists the Director of Product Design - Tax and the Senior Director of Product Design with completion of product designs and all analysis associated with all tax products. The Product Designer will report to the Director of Product Design - Tax for day to day activities.
Principal Responsibilities:
Interacting with Director Product Design - Tax and the Senior Director of Product Design to understand processes, capture business requirements, and assist with sculpting a solution.
Analyzing tax forms and tax rates in order to create detailed specifications and functional designs
Analyzing EDI guides, XML requirements, and other electronic tax filing specifications provided by government entities in order to create detailed specifications and functional designs
Reviewing functional issues found in Tax Products and create detailed specifications and functional designs for required changes and / or enhancements
Working within the Product Design team to develop a conceptual model of the application by "mocking up" the proposed solution.
Assisting the Product Design team with research necessary for defining product requirements.
Taking thorough business requirements and finalizing the application functional design by completing detailed documentation for use by product design, software development and quality assurance.
Working with software development, quality assurance to help them understand requirements, finalize functional requirements, and provide functional specifications.
Working with developers to ensure they understand design specifications so they may effectively build the product.
Providing ongoing business requirement expertise to members of the product design, development, and quality assurance teams.
Assisting professional services as needed with training client personnel using the company's products.
Assisting sales staff as needed by providing product expertise during the sales cycle.
Understanding the technical implementation of the product, including the architecture and data model
Having a working understanding of how the existing and emerging tax products interact
Supporting the tax product design team in achieving their product objectives
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to effectively communicate functional concepts to other staff members across all teams and to external clients.
Ability to interface well with teams across the organization, including Professional Services, Development, Sales, and Marketing.
Ability to take initiative and own a problem or concept and drive to a solution.
Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle.
Eagerness to contribute in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
Knowledge of database management systems - SQL Server, Oracle
This position is not expected to include travel requirements. Less than 5% travel expected.
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications, Education Requirements:
Undergraduate degree from accredited, 4-year institution
Experience: 5-10 years
