We are currently seeking a Product Designer for our Houston, TX or Green Bay, WI office.
The Product Designer - Tax Determination position at FuelQuest functions as an analyst for tax automation projects. The Product Designer assists the Manager of Tax Content and the Senior Director of Product Design with tax determination content changes and designs for product changes and enhancements. The Product Designer will report to the Manager of Tax Content for day to day activities.
Principal Responsibilities:
Supporting the tax product design team in achieving their product objectives.
Having a working understanding of how the existing and emerging tax products interact.
Working with quality assurance to help in understanding requirements and needed test cases.
Serve as the functional expert for tax determination and manage the translation of functional content changes into actionable configuration changes within the Zytax 5.x database.
Understanding the technical implementation of the product, including the architecture and data model.
Develop, document, and execute plan for monthly maintenance of tax rates, rules and other tax content.
Review Tax Determination rate/rule issues and identify and document corrective actions for defect resolution.
Working with development to ensure they understand design specifications so they may effectively build the product.
Support QA test efforts for Tax Determination application and content releases in order to verify tax determination accuracy.
Support Tax Determination Content expansion efforts for USA/Canada federal/state motor fuel excise tax and sales tax determination/calculation.
Support motor fuel excise tax research and analysis efforts in support of continuous improvement of Zytax Tax Determination Solution (TDS) and TDS Content (rates and rules).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Expertise in Microsoft Access a plus.
Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Eagerness to contribute in a team-oriented environment.
Knowledge of database management systems - SQL Server, Oracle.
Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
Ability to take initiative and own a problem or concept and drive to a solution.
Strong knowledge of database management systems (SQL Server, Oracle) is a requirement.
Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members across all teams and to external clients.
International, indirect tax experience a plus (Canadian GST/PST/HST and Motor Fuel Tax, VAT, EU Excise Duty).
Ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to other staff members across all teams and to external clients.
Excellent documentation skills - ability to explain complex tax requirements and scenarios from a functional and technical perspective; ability to assist design of tax determination software features.
Demonstrated expertise in multistate motor fuel excise tax and sales/use tax determination/calculation in the USA.
Ability to interface well with teams across the organization, including Technical Support, Professional Services, Sales, and Marketing.
Experience with implementation, design/development, testing, or administration of motor fuel excise/sales/use tax determination/calculation software applications.
Required:
USA federal/state motor fuel excise tax experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years experience in software design / development / testing.
Expertise in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Visio.
3+ years experience in multistate sales/use tax research, analysis, or solution design.
Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, computer science or related field preferred.
