Product Developer International Catastrophe Insurance

The Product Developer position carries out complex analysis and construction of products by adding factors and rates, and developing eligibility rules. The position includes requirements gathering and documentation, product construction, and software quality assurance.
In addition, the Product Developer is expected to contribute ideas and suggestions related to the design, implementation, and management of the business models, underwriting rules, rating algorithms and decision factors for ICAT?s insurance products within the Product Machine.
Product Development and Support
Consult and assist the ICAT staff to determine business requirements, functional requirements and input/output requirements for new products and product enhancements.
Responsible for ensuring the proper documentation is created including System Requirements Specification and Technical Design Specification, approved and stored in the change management system.
Build or modify existing raters using MS Excel.
Update rates, factors, and eligibility rules/formulas inside the Product Machine.
Analyze code for potentially untested logic, error-prone assumptions, misunderstood requirements, and problem resolution.
Provide technical consulting and respond to error reports, problems or questions.
Work with specialists in business analysis and project management on application quality assurance.
Prototype new applications to refine requirements as needed.
Create test plans, test data sets and perform automated testing to ensure all components of the system meet specifications.
Work directly with the ICAT personnel and business partners to resolve issues identified through the testing.
Formalize test plans and implements testing procedures.
Independently provide recommendations on the best approach to solve problems.
Write and maintain operational procedures and troubleshooting procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Works under the general supervision of the Application Development Manager. This position does not supervise other personnel.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Strong mathematical skills working with complex formulas and equations
Extremely proficient MS Excel experience
Knowledge of XML
Ability to create and execute SQL queries against databases
o Programming language such as VB or Java is helpful

Knowledge of Property and Casualty industry and insurance and underwriting rules and decision tree logic preferred.
Experience on company-wide product management systems (product or application development lifecycle environment) desired.
Proven experience working with complex mathematical equations and formulas
Proven understanding of computational logic
Proven experience working with database structures and data modeling.
Proven experience working with Excel spreadsheets and an ability to understand and use rating spreadsheets.
Proven project management and leadership skills, including the ability to gather clear business requirements.
Proven ability to develop, document and maintain operational policies and procedures, including the designing and documenting detailed process flows, and the development of operational performance and quality metric standards and reports.
BA or BS degree in actuarial sciences, math, hard science, computer science or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of databases and their use, including data modeling, analysis and administration required.
Knowledge of SQL queries, in MS SQL or Oracle preferred.
Working knowledge of Java programming.
Advanced MS Office.

Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis.
Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.
Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Mental Work Demands
Regular and on-time attendance.
Hours regularly exceed 40 hours per week.
Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
