Description
Product Development Engineer
Basic Purpose
This role is responsible for performing engineering tasks in development, analysis, product testing, customer support, and value engineering relative to production of new products and modification and improvement of existing products. This position will be developing PV solar energy downstream systems that are custom-designed to meet the energy requirements of customers ranging from commercial to industrial facilities. Other responsibilities are to deliver solar system configurations with components that have been designed and validated to work optimally together. This individual will assume responsibility for technical assignments including the design and development of cutting edge programs and projects for vertical integration of the company?s core products. This is a senior level position requiring an experienced engineer in electrical systems, power distribution, inverters, and solar installations.
Key Responsibilities
Familiarity with marking requirements and restrictions for US, Asia and EU markets
ANSI/UL-1703, IEC-61730, IEC-61646 certifications
Generate creative solutions to advance product development projects
Prepare protocols, data analyses, technical reports, and manuscripts for publications
Work cross-functionally with other teams and departments
Work independently as well as in a team environment
Competencies
Product Development
Understanding of reliability, continuous improvement/quality tools, Design of experiments, SPC, and FMEA.
Experience maintaining product documentation for sustaining and release: Drawings, BOM, specifications, etc.
Field failure analysis and solution evaluation for production product issues.
Research into materials and component technologies to evaluate development opportunities
Prior experience with specifying, installing, or inspecting photovoltaic installations and strong working knowledge of power electronics design
Preferred Education and Experience
BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
2-4 years prior experience with photovoltaic module design or production
NABCEP training or certification preferred
Photovoltaic testing (Indoor and outdoor) and measurement experience
Understanding of glass production and properties
Knowledge of polymeric materials and compatibilities including adhesives, encapsulate, edge seal materials and other materials
