Product Development Engineer, Flex Miasole
The Flex module development team is responsible for creating, developing, validating, and transitioning new, flexible PV product designs into production. Our team is expanding and we are excited about adding a talented, organized engineer with strong analytical skills to drive a deeper understanding of the electrical performance of our current products in development as well as future products entering the Concept and Feasibility stage. This position will interact with all facets of flexible PV module technologies such as material selection, product design, accelerated and outdoor testing, system characterization, performance modeling, and customer applications. It is essential for the person to be able to independently design test plans, run experiments, organize data, draw conclusions and present results in clear written and verbal formats. Projects will involve careful upfront planning, managing supporting resources, and applying a hands-on approach. We are looking for someone who can manage multiple tasks, thrives in a collaborative environment, and understands the fast paced dynamic nature of the solar PV business. The candidate should be ready to lead project teams and understands the importance of meeting commitments while managing to a prioritized schedule.
? Analysis of all electrical conduction paths as well as insulating layers to ensure optimized energy flow, safe operation, and long term reliability
? Flexible module performance characterization using IV, EL, IR, etc to understand design limits under different conditions and prepare for advancements with next generation products
? Conceptualize, plan, execute, and analyze experiments at laboratory to production scale with development team and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders
? Using best practice mathematics, determine correlation factors between product design, accelerated life testing, outdoor field results, and performance modeling
? Assist reliability team with design, set-up, and maintenance of outdoor PV monitoring systems
? Support engineering builds with respect to module performance measurements, failure analysis
? Provide expertise on compliance to PV international codes and meeting certification requirements
? Prepare and deliver executive presentations to clearly describe technical status, risks, and mitigation strategies
? Minimum of 3 years experience characterizing PV module electrical performance using flasher and IV sweeper technologies. Strong EE fundamentals
? Designing DOEs and SVTs to identify optimal performance. A leader in planning experimental runs, driving all tasks associated with the test plan, and analyzing the data.
? Worked in an environment using a formal Product Development Process to define and then execute a new product introduction
? Solid understanding of DC and AC systems along with the physics of PV cell operation. Experience designing, installing, and monitoring PV systems is a plus.
? Knowledge and experience conducting relentless analysis leading to cost and value optimization
? Familiar with materials of construction for PV modules. Background with thin-film technologies is a plus.
? Must have demonstrated ability to organize and work with large data sets using Excel and JMP or equivalent tools to detect trends and develop hypothesis
? Direct experience successfully transitioning multiple products from development into manufacturing
? Skilled in PV system performance modeling using PVsyst (preferred), PVsol, SAM, or similar and making PV module design tradeoffs based on modeled energy output.
? BS/MS degree program or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a similar field.
