This position will require strong technical knowledge at the systems level and the ability to troubleshoot successfully to the component level using schematics. Operating independently and with minimal supervision, the successful candidate will be a self starter, a quick study, and be results driven. Additional behavioral characteristics required are that the individual have an exemplary work ethic, a customer service orientation, be self motivated, disciplined, organized and possess a very enquiring mind.
The primary function for this position will be failure analysis at the board level. To that end the successful candidate will set up a bench test capability in the San Jose lab and transfer any production board testing to our Silicon Valley based manufacturing partner. The Product Engineer will be responsible for supervising the results and ensuring compliance of the out-sourced production board level test. There will be a synergistic and cooperative relationship between board level Product Engineering, Test Engineering and DFT Engineering leading to benchmark performance in outgoing quality levels.
This position will be the first point of customer contact for board and IC hardware problems. The incumbent will participate in customer conference calls, develop and publish comprehensive and detailed failure analysis reports and maintain records in an organized and searchable database. The candidate is expected to have exemplary ability to prioritize tasks while multi-tasking and making efficient use of time. An ability to communicate effectively to customers and across a multi-functional organization is critical for success. The successful candidate will be highly disciplined with a commitment to process and documentation.
Responsibilities
1) Failure Analysis
- Board level troubleshooting of customer products
- De-mounting parts, bench level characterization over temperature and voltage
- Coordinating IC level testing with peer engineers and suppliers
- Writing, reporting and issuing timely failure analysis (FA) reports to customers
- Maintaining an accurate and up to date FA database
- Attending conference calls to discuss findings with customers
2) Quality Functions
- Performing internal audits
- Document control administrator responsibility for DocTrac
Education
BSEE or MSEE (preferred). Computer Engineering and other technical considered.
Experience
A minimum of five years relevant experience with a track record of accomplishment is expected. Experience in the communications industry is essential though size of company is not as important as the individual being knowledgeable and able to work independently. A background in field applications engineering or design would be advantageous.
