Job Purpose Summary: The Product Manager (PM) is responsible for providing product management and marketing support to specific cardio-thoracic product lines in accordance with the strategy developed by the Marketing Management Team. It is PM?s responsibility to use all available data sources (market research, financial analyses, market trends, competitive intelligence, etc.) to achieve departmental sales and profit objectives.
Supervision Received and Exercised: Receives supervision from the Marketing Management Team.
Status: Exempt.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage product line?s ability to achieve sales and operating profit objectives.
Analyze the positioning of Pioneer products and competitors to identify strategies for differentiation with increased sales and market shares.
Review current business for potential line extensions or new use development programs.
Manage the initiation and development of new and existing product lines.
Initiate Marketing plan?s specific for new product launch
Know and follow all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.
Performs other special projects and functions as assigned by the department manager.
Champion the product lifecycle process, including new product identification, product development, product launch and market management.
Identify new product ideas that address unmet clinical needs or represent material improvements to standard of care through insightful investigations with clinician customers, field sales representatives, cardio-engineers and cardiac scientists.
Prioritize and select products for advancement through development process through business case assessment, using cross functional resources to understand regulatory, reimbursement, professional education, legal, and operational implications of product strategies.
Develop product portfolio strategies that maximize sales force effectiveness and overall penetration of innovative technologies.
Lead cross functional team(s) in all activities that will deliver products on time to the market that improve patient outcomes and increase customer satisfaction.
Build powerful relationships with key thought leaders in Cardio-Thoracic community.
Manage clinical data efforts along with clinical champions for marketed products.
Monitor competitive activity to identify potential threats, while uncovering and exploiting opportunities arising from industry trends.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: BS/BA degree in business management, marketing, science or engineering field. Masters degree in Business Administration preferred.
Experience and Training Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years in a classical marketing function with demonstrated success in direct product management in the Medical Device. Project management and/or sales experience may suffice in lieu of product management experience.
Must have a solid understanding of market planning and development, forecasting, financial analysis/budgeting and overall marketing management.
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of market research methodologies and sources of secondary research data.
Experience with brand management through the product lifecycle is essential.
Superior verbal and written communication (both in groups and one-on-on interaction) and presentation skills.
Demonstrated strong analytical skills.
Capacity for strategic thinking, planning, project management and product development.
Demonstrated consistent ability to deliver results across multiple and complex projects.
Demonstrated strong work ethic and initiative in accomplishing objectives and drive results through others.
Knowledge and experience with new product development and introduction processes are essential.
Must have a sound technical understanding of surgery and the O.R. environment.
Experience interacting directly surgeon customers greatly desired.
A background in hospital-based sales models is highly preferred.
Experience in developing & supporting training & education of internal employees; core marketing & sales collateral materials.
Known for timely response for requests from the Sales organization.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a cross-functional and team oriented environment is essential.
Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook), and Microsoft Project
Ability to travel overnight up to 35 % with some weekend travel required.
Working Conditions: Environments include office, hospitals, laboratories (wet and dry) and those typically encountered during travel (hotels, restaurants, airplanes, etc). Travel may be over 35% of the year and include weekends. Must be able to achieve credentialing to enter hospital OR area for product support.
