Key Position Accountabilities:
Create and launch test fixtures and instrumentation for product control and data collection.
Support hardware tests on heliostat drives, structures and electronics
Plan test technical areas to measure relevant variables in the most effective way interactively with design engineers
Design, set up and support tests internally and with vendor partners.
Work in a team environment with designers, product release engineers and external vendors.
Support technologies including motor control, position sensing, temperature monitoring, wind, optical aiming, torque and load measurement.
Support manufacturing tests via development test experience
Contribute to the design of solar collector system components / systems
The Product Test Engineer will be responsible for design and creation of various solar collector system product tests. The primary area of work is test design including method, component selection, hardware, integration and control. This test equipment is used in product development, durability and integration work on-site, at our operating facility, and at test service vendors. Products to be tested include heliostat components and control systems.
Bachelors Degree in engineering
At least 6 years experience in electro-mechanical device test engineering.
Demonstrated ability to create test platforms especially around instrumentation, data acquisition, actuator and sensor selection, integration and software
Ability to use software (Excel, Matlab, LabVIEW) to collect and analyze large data sets into meaningful test results.
Ability to use tools, software, and scripting to automate testing and data gathering (e.g. Matlab, LabVIEW, Python).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Organized, hands-on and detail oriented.
Occasional travel to test sites required.
Familiarity and experience with FMEA-driven design and test
Thorough understanding of the theoretical and practical application of statistical tools for analysis of data.
Experience with controls hardware and software in spatial position (robotics, industrial actuators, measurement systems)
Experience working in renewable energy, particularly solar power or solar thermal.
