Production Engineer Caring.com
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED
We have a highly technologically savvy software development team but (until now) have not had fully dedicated operational staff. As our first operations staff, you will help us to improve our production systems, improve the quality of our website, and help with IT needs across the company. You'll lay the groundwork for operational excellence for the next decade. When promoted, you will be replaced by three people.
The job has five areas of responsibility:
Production operations: managing/improving our Amazon EC2-based environment
Release Engineering: marshal our new software into production
Data management: support for our online services directory
Automated quality assurance: running and improving our test suites
IT support: configure and upgrade computers (90 are Macs)
We appreciate that one individual may not have experience in all of these areas, and are keen to provide (on the job) training to fill-in the gaps.
We are looking for someone who is...
a smart, rigorous, and analytical thinker
an avid learner -- capable of rapidly learning new technologies and processes; works hard to do the same
a cultural fit: highly ethical, collaborative, hard working, and creative
highly organized -- never 'misses a beat'
capable of working with complex systems (and has demonstrated the same)
Qualifications
Capable with LINUX or other UNIX-based operating systems
Solid scripting skills (ruby preferred)
Conversant in SQL
Knowledgeable about the OSX/Macintosh platform
Knowledgeable about source control (git, SVN, CVS, etc.)
Strong troubleshooting skills/experience
Experiences in these areas are a big plus
Administering Amazon EC2-based environments
Automated testing suites -- Cucumber and Selenium in particular

MySQL administration
Conversant with monitoring tools: NewRelic, Nagios, etc.
Conversant with the Capistrono deployment tool
Conversant in MongoDB administration and query language
A four-year degree, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field, or equivalent experience.
