The Department
Manufacturing/Production â€" One of the most critical needs we now have at SpaceX is for Manufacturing/Production engineers. With two vehicles flight proven, we have a $3 billion backlog of sold flights. The next critical phase is proving our ability to build rockets with increasing speed while maintaining quality in order to meet the markets high demand. We are looking to add manufacturing engineers throughout the company.
The Job
Responsibilities
- Support the integration of sub-assemblies into both 1st and 2nd Stages.
- Conduct tests to evaluate hardware performance
- Act as a conduit for completing the resource management process, including: planning, parts coordination, skilled labor coordination, process verification, etc…
- Oversee components specification, procurement and fabrication for flight assemblies
- Operate test console and direct a team of technicians to execute test processes
- Work to resolve anomalies found during the integration and testing process, and collaborate with design engineers to improve hardware
- Develop, maintain, and execute integration and test documentation, including work orders, nonconformance documentation, procedures, and test plans.
- Analyze and review data to ensure that hardware is operating as expected utilizing numerical data analysis tools to interpret test results
- Provide clear communication between engineering, the production floor, and the test stand.
- Interface with other production groups including Enterprise Information Systems to ensure timely production
- Oversee the transition of hardware assemblies from development to production. Work closely with design engineers and responsible persons during hardware build and test.
- Develop improvements in production and test methods, standards, tooling, equipment, layout, procedures, and product designs. Identify continuous improvement opportunities for performance, reliability, and cost.
- Work hands on during integration and test operations.
- Ensure all operations are performed on time, safely and in a professional manner
- Report integration activities to team and management to ensure on-time delivery of products.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
RequirementsEducation & Experience Requirements:
- B.S. degree is required in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering; or equivalent experience required
- Positions are available beginning at entry level to 10+ years experience
- Experience in production and test systems are preferred
- Hands on production facility, factory or laboratory experience
- Mechanical aptitude and experience
- Demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a critical role

- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems preferred, but not required
- Experience with product launch and production preferred
General requirements:
- Knowledge and/or experience in aerospace structural or mechanical systems assembly and testing
- Ability to utilize test instrumentation and control components: pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flow meters, load cells, relays, solenoid valves, preferred
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as CNC mill, lathe, surface finishing, orbital tube welding and GTAW
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma training
- Hands-on or test facility experience
- Experience using test instrumentation and control components: pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flow meters, load cells, relays, solenoid valves
- Demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a critical role
- Ability to solve problems calling for technical analysis
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and reports
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics
- Knowledge of hazardous systems â€" cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, pyrophoric
- Knowledge of high pressure system design and handling
- Experience using test instrumentation and control components
Software/Computer Skills and Required Skill Level:
- Windows Operating Systems, Intermediate
- Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Project, OneNote), Intermediate
- CAD modeling (Unigraphics NX preferred) and Teamcenter, Novice, preferred
Physical requirements:
- Ability to work in a high-stress environment
- A positive, upbeat attitude
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects is required in this position (20-30lbs)
- Occasionally exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments â€" heat, cold, rain
- Occasionally exposed to fumes, odors, and noise
