General Description: A venture capital-funded, start-up biotechnology company, seeks a Program Manager with experience overseeing research and development activities, external scientific collaborations, and partner relationships. The company seeks an energetic individual with experience managing vendors, budgets, and timelines across company R&D activities. The candidate will have experience in program management activities, an enthusiastic entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for exploiting multiple technologies to enable drug discovery around the human microbiome.
Education requirements: The candidate will have a degree in the life sciences (e.g., Ph.D.), 4-6 years of experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting working in an R&D capacity, and Project Management Professional certification.
Required Attributes: The successful candidate will have broad experience in Program Management roles within a biotech or pharma environment, managing all facets of research programs ranging from pharmacology, assay development, DNA sequencing and bioinformatics. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully managed pharma alliances to project completion. The candidates will have experience managing external R&D vendors. Special preference will be given to candidates with a strong animal pharmacology background and an understanding of constructing animal model protocols to achieve successful efficacy outcomes. It is required that the candidate has experience managing budgets, timeline management and familiarity with communicating with partner counterparts. Proficiency with program tracking software (e.g. Microsoft Project, Redmine) is required.
Other desired traits:
Demonstrated clear understanding of main program goals, as well as deliverables and milestones.
Strong communication and scientific skills to work with scientists internally and externally to maximize project and program productivity.
Ability to manage potential laboratory vendors from long distance.
Diligence in maintaining weekly contact with partners and vendors.
Appropriate recording and reporting of billing and reporting.
Ability to manage potentially difficult situations with partners and vendors and the ability to defuse/resolve problematic situations.
Ability to anticipate problems before they arise and address with contingency planning and risk mitigation.
Familiarity with linking the power of genomics to the drug discovery process is also desirable.
The candidate must show a strong desire to utilize his/her skills to discover drugs for several disease areas key to the company?s interests, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Metabolic Diseases.
The ability to work as a team member and a willingness to become part of a fast paced, entrepreneurial biotech atmosphere is a must. The candidate must portray an ability to collaborate with academicians, industry scientists and other strategic partners in drug discovery efforts.
The Program Manager will possess great interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire productivity in cross-functional teams consisting of personnel at various experience levels. This must coexist with an understanding of the general needs of the business side of the organization.
Salary is commensurate with experience; stock options are part of a compensation package.
