The HMS Programmer Analyst is a key member of the HMS Professional Services Data team responsible for the development, maintenance, and enhancement of client deliverables. The Programmer Analyst is responsible for developing solutions that meet the specific needs of our clients. To accomplish this objective, he or she will review requirements with Project Managers, develop scripts to generate deliverables, and quality-check results. In addition to developing and maintaining client projects, the Programmer Analyst will also be responsible for performing data analysis for both internal and external customers. He or she should be comfortable conversing with clients; either in person or over the phone. To be successful in this role, the Programmer Analyst must understand the business value of HMS? solutions and the impact that design decisions will have on our customers.Primary responsibilities will include:
Develop and test scripts to generate data deliverables for clients
Maintain and modify existing scripts
Analyzes data quality issues; identify root cause and come up with solutions
Fields client data-questions; either over the phone or in person
Work with Project Managers to develop custom solutions to meet client business needs
Analyze large data sets using scripting and query tools as needed
Meets agreed-upon timelines for the completion of project tasks.
Assists with the transition of products to operations; provides training and written documentation.
Key Competencies:
Strong general technical ability, including proficiency in:
Scripting with languages such as Perl, Ruby, or Python
SQL and developer tools such as PL/SQL
Linux and/or Unix style OS
Version control systems such as Git
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Ability to creatively solve diverse problems
Ability to work under tight deadlines
Strong analytical skills including analysis, data collection, process mapping and troubleshooting for root cause
Job Requirements:
BA/BS degree required (specialization in information technology or computer software design preferred)
3+ years experience utilizing a scripting language such as Ruby, Perl, Unix
2+ years data management experience with healthcare data ? provider profiles, medical coding, script and/or outlet data
Exposure to Makefiles a plus!
Familiarity with pharmaceutical marketing information and/or healthcare claims data preferred
Experience dealing with large data sets (1M+ records) a plus!
Practical knowledge of data processing and manipulation (ETL) preferred
Regular expressions a plus!
