About the Job
The Project Finance Analyst will participate in Task Teams with significant client involvement, supporting project due diligence as well as implementation efforts of individual Task Managers in individual Capacity Building and Transaction Advisory assignments under the Africa Infrastructure Program (AIP.)
AIP is a transaction oriented program bringing project finance expertise supported by energy sector specific technical, financial, commercial, regulatory, legal, environmental, etc. know-how, uniquely designed to complement efforts of the development finance community. The Program seeks to help advanced stage electricity generation and transmission projects in Sub-Saharan Africa reach financial closure. AIP assists such projects by bringing the relevant experts to the negotiating table as advisors to the government, the relevant government agency, or the local developer. These experts bring advisory support to resolve pending issues that may otherwise be hindering closure for financing.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Project Finance Analyst, under guidance from individual Task Managers and their senior staff, will carry out accounting reviews and financial analysis of projects and inter alia.
Communicate with Task Order staff to determine purpose, scope and expected capabilities of specific Financial Projections Models for individual energy generation and transmission projects;
Analyze financial statements of targeted project and incorporate along with necessary risk mitigating structures into such Model;
Conduct sensitivity analyses, analyze and evaluate results.
Prepare supporting documentation and manuals on Model use;
Provide client training on Model use.
Provide critical reviews of project Feasibility Studies and help design the Terms of Reference for further analysis in deficient areas;
Identify critical risk areas in projects and participate in the design of mitigating techniques to cover such risks;
Review legal documents and provide initial mark up of boiler plate documents that suit the project circumstances;
Provide critical reviews of regulatory documents and help draft changes;
Collect and compile data as well as conduct market and other research as necessary to accomplish the above tasks, as part of due diligence of individual projects under review;
Draft a variety of supportive project reports, documents, and communications.
Qualifications
The incumbent will need to have a strong academic background in financial fields and have the ability to apply such background, under due guidance from experienced senior staff, in the financial structuring of projects in developing countries through a variety of risk mitigating techniques.
Excellent communication and writing skills are essential.
Ability to travel is a must.
Ability to work in foreign environments and sensitivity to different cultural environments are a must.
Experience and familiarity in the energy sector are a plus.
