Psychometrician ($2,000 referral bonus) PatientsLikeMe

Job Description
PatientsLikeMe is embarking on an exciting stage of development to expand our award-winning team. We believe that "to measure is to know". That?s why we?ve already developed tools such as the Multiple Sclerosis Rating Scale (Revised, MSRS-R), Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Adherence Questionnaire (MS-TAQ), and an extension to the ALS Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS-EX) to help doctors, researchers, and ultimately patients. This year we?re looking to open up our platform to other instrument developers and we need you to help us build and manage a new software tool, which could lead to the swift creation of dozens of new measures of disease. This new tool will allow researchers to listen to patients on our platform, construct new instruments, prototype them on PatientsLikeMe, and more quickly validate them against existing measures. Best of all, these instruments will all be licensed for free under Creative Commons so that they can be widely used in trials or clinical practice.
Using your psychometric skills and experience in developing patient reported instruments and measures, you will work with a unique multi-disciplinary team to:
Develop psychometric testing tools that can quickly help scale developers to recognize good items, discard bad items, and choose the most appropriate scoring techniques for their new scale
Ensure high quality statistical rigor in important issues such as test-retest reliability, minimally important differences, and comparability with existing measures
Support scale developers directly as we pilot the development of new instruments across therapeutic areas to help understand additional areas for platform improvement
In addition to being an expert psychometrician, as an accomplished communicator and collaborative team player, you will work with software developers to upgrade our software platform. As a member of the PatientsLikeMe team you will keep up to date on modern methods and work to ensure our platform represents the state of the art.
About you
(Essential) PhD or Master's level education with expertise in multiple academic or commercial patient-reported outcomes
(Essential) 3+ Years experience in human clinical research; demonstrated experience in research design, data collection, data analysis, and publication
(Desirable) 3+ Years industry experience (e.g. CRO, pharmaceutical company, consultancy)
You should become very familiar with our work and our vision before applying; you should check out work on the ALSFRS-EX, the MS Rating Scale (MSRS), and the MS Treatment Adherence Questionnaire (MSTAQ) for a sense of our most relevant work. Send us a resume and cover letter to careers@patientslikeme.com highlighting your best work and what you can bring to the team.
