Public Policy Uber
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Urban transportation has looked the same for a long time - a really longtime - thanks in large part to regulatory regimes that don't encourage innovation. We think it's time for change. At Uber, we're putting first-class, on-demand transportation at everybody's fingertips. We need a Public Policy go-getter to help us work with local, state, and national governments around the world to develop transportation regulations for the next century. Are you ready to help us change the world?
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Analyze existing and proposed regulations for impact on Uber or our transportation partners
Develop the strategy for keeping markets open or opening new ones
Directly engage policymakers, their staffs, and third parties to educate them about Uber's business model and vision
Identify, hire, and manage outside support firms
WHAT YOU?LL NEED
A hustler. If you're dependent on your little black book, this isn't the job for you. We're operating in and going to new places. The right candidate makes friends fast and isn't uncomfortable getting on a plane without a change of clothes.
A wonk. We're helping develop the regulatory infrastructure for the next generation of transportation services. You don't need to have experience in transportation policy, and you can't be somebody who prefers white papers to other people, but you need to be comfortable with complex legal concepts and willing to wade through convoluted regulatory regimes.
Somebody who knows they can change the world. We're shaking up an industry that has been pretty comfortable for decades (even centuries in some places). This job is not for the risk-averse or compulsive people-pleasers. We play to win.
Competitive candidates probably have between three and seven years of relevant experience and/or a graduate degree. But these are significantly less important than the other qualities we're looking for (see, e.g., hustler, wonk, and world-changer).
You're based in or willing to move to San Francisco. Will consider other locations only for truly exceptional candidates.
Travel like a European diplomat: employees are showered with Uber credits
Ground floor opportunity at a fast growing company that is changing the face of transportation worldwide
As an early member of our business operations team you?ll shape the business direction of the company
We?re not just another social web app: we?re moving real assets and real people around their cities
We have access to an amazing list of advisors and investors that we actively engage
