Aurora Flight Sciences is currently seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer at our Manufacturing Facility in Columbus, MS.
The Quality Assurance Engineer, working under general supervision, in a team oriented environment, perform all tasks in area of responsibility in a timely and efficient manner to support the inspection/quality system ensuring all aspects of the delivered/finished article is manufactured in accordance with approved quality system requirements and is certified as compliant to type design requirements. Coordinates with program management positions to identify and implement corrective actions as appropriate; supports, documents, and validates process improvement initiatives. This position reports to the facility Quality Manager.
Write quality plans compliant to customer requirements working with product development and/or manufacturing teams to ensure the plans are fulfilled during development and production phases
Manage the compliance of the quality activities, internal and supply chain, through the application of system, product and process audits to support requirements of FAA and/or customer requirements.
Understands and is able to apply and communicate to others: engineering drawings / models/ specifications; Federal Aviation Regulations, Quality Control System Requirements, knowledge of manufacturing/fabrication techniques and processes. Point of Contact for regulatory authorities and external customers regarding system compliance (e.g. audits) for assigned programs, resolution of customer/fleet specific technical issues and special project requests or field evaluations
Serve as the customer primary point of contact for quality support issues throughout the product development and production life cycle
Review new and revised product documentation to ensure the accuracy of customer quality requirements and their impact to the product / business ? includes engineering drawings / models, procedures and change orders
Participate in Product Development, Manufacturing and Testing activities. Analyze performance and failure data throughout development cycle and identify opportunities and solutions for improvement.
Ensures non-conforming product is properly identified, segregated, reviewed, and disposed in accordance with customer requirements
Coordinates external test lab requirements pertaining to assigned programs as required
Create and implement supplier development plans in conjunction with procurement and business teams.
Evaluates incoming customer returns including warranty claims and damaged product; completes disposition reports as required and manages the Material Review quarantine area.
Supports Quality Action reporting metrics; provides data for tracking metrics. Assists in development of root-cause analysis and corrective/ preventive actions are implemented to address non-conformances
Participates in internal and external design reviews, providing input on definition of product sufficient to allow inspection, prior production / field issues pertinent to the configuration under review. Has a strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M and/or Y14.41 sufficient to review / approve manufacturing work instructions and support inspection practices including selection of appropriate measurement methods / instruments.
Participate in audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions.
Minimum Requirements (education and experience):
Bachelors degree (BS) preferably in Engineering or a related technical discipline and 5 or more years of related experience. In lieu of a technical degree, and combination of degree and significant experience may be considered
Quality background with experience in Root Cause and Corrective and Preventative Action.
American Society for Quality certification desired.
Experience in aerospace or related industry preferred; background in other industry segments may be considered based product and skill sets. Composite component industry experience strongly preferred.
AS9100 working knowledge preferred; ISO9000 may be substituted with appropriate industry experience level.
Lean Six Sigma certification desired. Minitab or similar data statistical analysis capability preferred
Must be proficient with MS Office suite of tools
Visual acuity and physical dexterity necessary to fulfill the role
Shift Requirements (specify if irregular work hours or shift work will be required): Extended and/or off-shift work will be occasionally required dependent upon the needs of the business.
