Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI) is a global provider of natural products serving the ever expanding agricultural and water markets. Venture capital financed and headquartered in Davis, California, the company focuses on discovering, developing, and marketing natural pest management products for the effective control of pests, weeds, plant diseases, and invasive species.
We are currently looking for a Quality Control Technician, Entomology to join our Quality Control group. This position will help scientists conduct bioassays on insecticidal products in a laboratory setting and will generate test records that are accurate, concise, and complete. The QC technician should possess basic knowledge of Entomology and be familiar with general lab equipment and practices.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Basic lab maintenance and cleaning
Prepare a variety of media types and laboratory reagents
Assist Research and Quality Control Scientists in conducting insect bioassays to test efficacy of insecticidal products
Maintain insect colonies and insect synchronization for bioassays
Collect, input, and organize test data and report results
Be aware of R&D and manufacturing policies, safety concerns, and environmental conditions that can affect product quality
Comply with quality systems procedures, as applicable
Package and store applicable product retains
Maintain test stations and equipment
Support other laboratory functions as required
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures, and report all unsafe activities to appropriate supervisor
Participate in efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skill
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Characteristics:
Education and Experience?This position shall preferably have prior experience working with insects in a regulated laboratory setting. An Associate?s degree in a Biological discipline or three years of equivalent educational or work experience is required for this position.
Language Skills?Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, regulations, and laboratory procedures. Possess the ability to write documents and report data. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and peers.
Mathematical Skills?Able to calculate figures and amounts such as area, length, and volume. Able to calculate and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and statistical functions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability?Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism such as graphs, formulas and scientific equations.
Computer Operations?Possess intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
Planning/Organization?Must have good organizational and record keeping skills and be capable of handling and carrying out multiple tasks and projects simultaneously under stringent deadlines.
Essential Physical & Mental Functions:
The Quality Control Technician, Entomology must have manual dexterity sufficient to handle and perceive attributes of very small insects, and be able to perform light physical, non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature.
Must be able to function in working conditions that are adequately lighted, moderately heated or air-conditioned, and in an indoor office, laboratory, and production setting.
In the course of daily activities, technicians may be occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds, are frequently exposed to insects, air contamination such as disagreeable odors, and may be exposed to toxic or caustic substances.
