DSC is rapidly growing and we have an opportunity for a Quality Engineer in our manufacturing group at our Chantilly, VA location. Qualified candidates must be able to work well in a small company atmosphere and have excellent communication skills.
The Quality Engineer will help spearhead organization wide process development and documentation activities, rollout product quality plans, identify opportunities to eliminate quality related issues, and improve internal processes through the application of statistics and other problem-solving techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support continuous improvement activities to enhance the quality system, such as 5S, Kaizen events, lean methods, etc.
Help drive root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective action for process, design, supplier, or customer related concerns.
Oversee the inspection of components and products as required for workmanship and conformance to specifications.
Identify out of control variances, investigate reasons, suggest solutions, implement, and follow-up to assure closure.
Assists in the planning, organizing, and managing the overall activities of both receiving & outgoing quality functions, including the creation of incoming inspection procedures.
Support inspections to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.
Review and verify non-conforming materials and follow up with reports and associated corrective actions as required.
Provide input into and assure progress relating to MRB activities.
Monitor suppliers? performance and conduct audits as needed. Ensure the timely resolution of supplier failures, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
Assist management in establishing, implementing, and maintaining a robust quality management system. This will include contributing to the definition and instituting of the methods and equipment that will be used to measure and verify the key quality characteristics of numerous materials, assemblies, and business processes.
As required, create and maintain company quality documentation, such as quality manuals, quality procedures, etc.
As needed, develop, implement, and maintain equipment files and associated documentation, including installation, operational and process qualification protocols/reports and calibration/ preventive maintenance documents.
Participate in the new product development & introduction process, providing input on quality related issues in order to meet or exceed performance, cost, and manufacturability goals.
Be an advocate for getting high performance, robust designs incorporated into products, and assure that all newly releases are in accordance with approved data and requirements.
Prepare performance reports for DSC?s Quality, Operations, and Engineering groups as required.
Maintain databases and design review reports to reflect management input and changing organizational needs.
Assure the execution and documentation of both internal and external audits in accordance with auditing schedules. Publish findings, propose, and help implement necessary preventative & corrective actions.
Participate in teams as the quality systems representative. Work independently and with team members to develop deliverables, including quality plans, manufacturing and inspection documentation, test methods, and device history records.
Review BOM?s with Engineering, Configuration Management, and Materials groups to assure accuracy and completeness.
Help meet company and departmental goals in the continuous improvement of all products, services, and processes.
Actively participate in the creation, implementation, and monitoring of statistical process control techniques, including control chart development and the identification of required support tools or equipment.
Maintain timeliness to schedule on assigned tasks.
Develop training to build quality awareness through the organization.
5+ years of experience and success in an electro-mechanical or optical technology manufacturing environment.
Bachelor?s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
Demonstrable proficiency in the following disciplines: Statistical Process Control and Cpk analysis, FMEA, Gage R&R, Taguchi/Fishbone diagrams, Design of Experiments, and DFM/DFX.
Ability to support and understand controlled experimentation and data interpretation towards making informed decisions.
Familiarity with electronic QC standards (Example: IPC-A-610).
Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
Good knowledge of basic metrology tools and concepts.
Significant experience monitoring, analyzing, and tuning, application and system performance.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting ability, including analytical skills and mind set.
Ability to effectively utilize DSC?s Configuration Management system (Windchill) and ERP system & BOM modules.
Ability to thrive working in a fast paced and expanding environment.
Very strong organization, multi-tasking, time management and documentation skills.
Strong communication skills.
PC literate in the use of MS Office suite and statistical packages.
Ability to travel (less than 25%).
Experience and knowledge of new product introduction cycles.
Tooling and fixture design experience.
Experience and knowledge of surface mount technologies.
Kaizen event experience.
Ability to frequently sit, reach within hands and arms length.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and use of computer monitor screens a great deal of time.
Frequently required to use office equipment such as PC, copier, etc.
Manual dexterity required to regularly work with small hand tools.
Individual?s primary workstation is located in the manufacturing/lab area.
The noise level in this environment ranges from low to moderate.
