Description:
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The R&D Associate I provides technical support for ongoing R&D projects by performing experiments and collecting data for the development of new and current products.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Executes experimental protocols and procedures under the direction and supervision of project leaders; follows ISO guidelines and FDA regulations in design control; assists in daily laboratory maintenance and organization; and performs other duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to an Associate Director R&D, or a Director, R&D. Has no supervisory responsibility.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
B.S. degree or equivalent in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or a closely-related area required.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Basic knowledge of the operation of biological laboratories, lab research, and lab technique required. One year laboratory experience in the areas of virology, micro or molecular biology preferred. Experience with various nucleic acid software programs, NCBI database work is preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
The qualified candidate has good laboratory techniques and the ability to use and maintain common laboratory equipment; the ability to follow written protocols and verbal instructions; excellent writing skills and the ability to write result summaries; strong organizational skills; and computer skills including working knowledge of e-mail, word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment characteristics are representative of both an office and laboratory environment. Handling of blood borne pathogens (viral and bacterial) as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Standing, sitting, walking, and use of hands and fingers is required.
