Position Summary
In this position the Research Analytical Chemist will report to a Technical Director and work within a multidisciplinary team to develop analytical methodologies for biofuel production via syngas fermentation and successfully contribute to completion of key projects and business objectives.
Job Responsibilities
Develop and document standard operating procedures and maintenance procedures for a wide range of analytical methods, including HPLC, GC, ICP, Mass Spectroscopy, FTIR and colorimetric methods
Specify, purchase, set up and commission new analytical tools
Provide training and support for end-users and new installations
Collaborate with other researchers to characterize process streams and complete mass balances
Collaborate with other researchers to develop raw material specifications and methods of validation
Evaluate and develop novel analytical technologies and applications, including on-line monitoring of process streams
Support the analytical needs of field operations, including up to 25 travel for on-site support
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Ph.D. in Chemistry with more than 5 years analytical chemistry experience in a process industry
Strong knowledge of statistics and physical chemistry
Background in biochemistry, microbiology and fermentation desirable, but not required
Considerable experience in developing innovative analytical technologies
Considerable experience in characterization of complex process streams
Significant experience in HPLC, GC, ICP, Mass Spectroscopy and FTIR
Significant experience in Agilent Chemstation and macro programming
Significant experience in writing Standard Operating Procedures and training end-users
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
