Located in the Davis, CA. facility, the primary responsibility of the Fermentation Research Associate will
work in the process development group. The main function of this role is to work on the development
and support of microbial based biologicals.
The incumbent will:
? Conduct fermentation experiments using shake flasks and bioreactors to gain understanding of
the impact of fermentation on the production, secretion and stability of active ingredients.
? Conduct downstream processing experiments related to harvest, concentration, and separation.
? Provide highly active materials through fermentation for formulation, bioassays, and field
testing.
? Be responsible for sample collection, data collection and analysis
? Write technical reports and documentation for internal presentations and interpretations.
? Collaborate with scientists and engineers in fermentation and formulation process
development.
? Be responsible for the maintenance of all relevant equipment.
Desired Skills & Experience
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
? A Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Microbiology
? Two years of hands?on experience in the following areas: microbial fermentation and
bioprocessing, microbiology, microbial physiology and fermentation science.
? Working knowledge of standard analytical, biological and wet chemistry laboratory equipment
and molecular techniques.
? Experience in industrial strain improvement.
? Strong organizational, time?management, oral and written communication skills.
? Microsoft Suite of programs including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
? Ability to lift, drag, and/or push fermentation equipment or related materials weighing up to 50
pounds.
Salary and Grade Level will be commensurate with experience and/or education level.
