At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Scientist in Strain Development to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
Required Skills
The Research Associate will provide support to the Strain Development team, working toward improved biocatalysts for the production and commercialization of food products.
Working closely with the supervisor, provide assistance in executing laboratory experiments.
Carefully execute experiments to reliably generate high quality data according to specified protocols, including transformation, mutagenesis, screening and selection of microorganisms.
Curate microorganisms according to standard protocols; develop improved protocols as directed.
Ensure the availability and quality of media, cultures and other laboratory materials as requested.
Archive laboratory samples, experimental materials and data in a careful and reliable manner.
Maintain laboratory notebooks and computer files in accordance with company policy.
Perform and communicate effectively within a group environment.
Interface effectively with members of the Strain Development group as well as contacts in the Discovery, Product Development and Process Development Teams.
Provide additional support within the Strain Development team as required.
Consistently demonstrate initiative and follow-through in implementing tasks.
Required Experience
Requires a Bachelor?s degree in Bioengineering, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
Excellent general aseptic techniques are required.
Experience with microbial cultivation and management of culture collections is required.
Demonstrated experience in preparation of specialized media and reagents is essential.
Experience in the molecular biology or physiology of eukaryotic algae is a plus.
Familiarity with light and fluorescence microscopy is a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to evaluate and convey results in small and large group settings.
