The position would involve using a range of research tools ? including in-person and telephone interviews, online research, social networking and attendance at industry events ? to gather information about private technology-company financing, M&A and strategy.
The single most important requirement for this position is meticulous and relentless attention to detail and accuracy. The applicant must be highly organized, self-directed and able to juggle multiple concurrent projects.
The ideal candidate would have excellent interpersonal and online research skills, along with good knowledge of ? and a high level of curiosity about ? technology companies and finance. The researcher must be skilled at engaging with senior executives, industry experts or financial professionals to elicit information about companies and transactions. The ideal candidate would enjoy attending numerous industry events and interacting in person or via social media, email or phone with a network of contacts.
The candidate should also have good writing skills and have broad-enough knowledge of the information technology marketplace to be able to write an original, plain-English description of what a specific technology company does.
The position would be based in The 451 Group's office near Union Square in San Francisco.
