Research Biologist Coskata

Position Summary:
Performs a variety of laboratory research experiments relevant to optimizing Coskatas biocatalysts through genetic manipulation. Candidate will be involved in the successful transfer of genes that improve the industrial characteristics of organisms which use syngas for the production of biofuels.
Position Responsibilities:
Plans and executes microbiological experiments such as growing, maintaining, analyzing and preserving biocatalysts. Plans, develops and optimizes molecular genetics (gene transfer) experiments using biocatalysts. Experience with electroporation preferred. Coordinates and screens gene transfer processes to isolate and test recombinant strains for productivity measurements. Performs Southern blotting and transcriptional analytical experiments (RT-PCR) on recombinant strains to confirm gene expression or knockout and new genotypes.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

A minimum of a Master of Science degree or Ph.D. in microbiology. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry.
A minimum of 5 years hands-on laboratory experience and a proven track record of research success in the area of anaerobic recombinant strain engineering preferred, but not essential. Should be well versed in relevant gene sequence computer applications and analytical instrumentation.
