The Requirements
You're a hacker at heart and love writing high-volume server applications. You may have a slight aversion toward writing HTML and CSS. You also have the urge to scratch itches and get to the bottom of tough problems. You have:
Considerable development experience with several real-world applications under your belt. You love getting your work in front of users.
At least a few years of Java experience, and probably a couple of other languages under your belt. Familiarity with popular Java frameworks like Spring, Hadoop, Hibernate, Cassandra, and Lucene are big pluses.
Written multi-threaded or distributed programs. You know how to make your code scale.
Some familiarity with Machine Learning technologies/techniques. Maybe you've built a tag cloud. Or maybe you took a class in college or grad school.
Good presentation skills. You should be able to talk intelligently and passionately about the interesting challenges your projects presented.
A sense of humor and perspective.
5+ years industry experience
B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
