Position Purpose: Research position in microbiology specializing in isolation, characterization and optimizing fermentations of anaerobic microorganisms capable of growing on syngas substrates. Researcher will help develop next generation products for company based on our core technology platform of syngas fermentations.
Isolation of novel species of microorganisms from environmental samples capable of growing on syngas.
Development of new novel methods of microbial characterization and detection using modern molecular biology techniques as well as advanced biochemical analyses of microorganisms and their metabolites.
Pathway optimization of novel microorganisms through random mutagenesis and nutrient optimization.
Identification of novel anaerobic pathways and physiologies that can be coupled to syngas metabolism.
Candidate should have proven proficiency in all anaerobic techniques.
Expertise with advanced experimental techniques including Plackett Burman design of experiments (DOE), and JMP software is expected.
Knowledge and experience with anaerobic syngas fermentation High Through Put methods and experimental design for strain improvement and novel microorganism discoveries.
Expertise with advanced analytical methodologies for molecular genetics, i.e. REP PCR, restriction digests analysis and gene sequence analysis desired.
Experience with fermentation product analysis using liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, GC- mass spectroscopy, bacterial Phospholipid Fatty Acid analysis and anaerobic enzyme assays.
A PhD in Microbiology with a minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience is preferred.
