Job Description:
The Communications Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and supporting high performance communications system for various aerial vehicles. The position requires:
A decent understanding of basic communication physics;
A familiarity with currently available products (such as military and aviation-grade radios);
Demmonstrated system-level communication engineering, such as link budget calculations;
And an ability to anticipate/troubleshoot/fix problems in the field.
GPS, PRC117, co-site analysis, antenna locations, and spectrum analyzers should be well understood for the candidate. This position requires someone who can read a co-site analysis and determine that we need to rotate the antenna to improve performance. Then use a spectrum analyzer to confirm the results.
This position supports the full length of the product development cycle from a block diagram to final flight tests. Aurora develops high-value affordable systems which typically leads to integrate existing commercially-available hardware that meets rigorous environmental standards for aircraft. The environment is fast-paced and requires the application of critical thinking in demanding situations. Frequently this position will require detailed interaction with internal engineers, suppliers and customers in order to ensure compliance to requirements and a successful design.
This position may require overtime and occasional travel to meet program objectives.
Minimum Requirements (education and experience):
Bachelor's degree from a four year accredited university in engineering.
Minimum of five years background in military or aviation communications.
Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality solutions to complex technical problems on-time and within budget.
Demonstrated ability to author requirements, design documents and test plans that prove compliance to higher-level specifications.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and fix typical (and unusual) communications problems that typically arise with co-located antennas, high powered radios, multiple frequencies, etc. on aircraft.
Ability to support multiple programs with competing priorities and deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project & MS Visio.
Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree in engineering.
Design of complex communications subsystems in aircraft.
Familiarity with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) methodologies.
Demonstrated experience in fligh test operations involving complex communications environments.
