EXEMPT/NON-EX: EXEMPT REPORTS TO: Manager, RF Engineering
JOB CODE: LOCATION: Leesburg, VA
GENERAL PURPOSE: The RF Engineer works in a team responsible for engineering, coordinating, documenting,
and implementing new products and services. The engineer?s primary focus is to ensure that new requirements, as
they relate to RF, are setup and configured to successfully implement for the customer.
? Analyze and understand link budgets to validate space line up message and frequency assignments.
? Develop and maintain detailed documentation and network drawings of RF chains and ground network
? Manage and maintain configuration integrity of iDirect NMS, modems, routers and switches.
? Work with customer project management and technical leads to ensure accuracy of customer side RF
equipment and understand configuration requirements.
? Coordinate with teleport staff to ensure teleport readiness to exceed customer expected delivery schedule.
? Coordinate with uplink teleport staff and satellite operator for carrier access.
? Understand the overall requirement and be able to identify and recognize potential RF and/or network
issues that may impact implementation in order to find resolutions early on.
? Serve as escalation point for VSAT/RF/iDirect issues on operational services
? Manage MPLS backbone to identify and resolve network issues.
? Manage network IP allocations and maintain integrity of IP database.
? Manage network equipment inventory and port assignments and ensure accuracy of relative database.
? Document service details to be used to prepare for new services and distribute to NOC.
? Ensure service details are recorded in relevant database and NMS systems for NOC monitoring and access.
? Provide status update on pending service activations as well as escalate issues when necessary.
? Other duties/responsibilities as may be assigned..
NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:
This position will report to the Manager of RF Engineering MTNGS. This position requires heavy interaction with
customers both external and internal as well as providers and vendors via telephone and email.
TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:
? BA or BS in Engineering or related field or 7 years equivalent job experience.
? Advance knowledge of satellite communications and RF systems.
? Extensive knowledge of teleport components and operations.
? Advance knowledge of remote VSAT systems and related issues including stabilized platforms (Seatel,
KNS, Orbit, etc.)
? CCNA/CCNP required
? iDirect and Linux experience as well as various other vendor modems and platforms
? Extensive experience with use of general test equipment; such as, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
? Must be able to communicate with clarity via telephone and email
? Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to contribute positively to team objectives; a team player
? Must maintain a professional demeanor in a highly demanding environment
? This position requires a TS/SCI clearance.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: PC use, telephone use. Some domestic/international travel may be required.
