Freescale?s Radio Frequency (RF) Group is the number one supplier of RF power transistors for cellular infrastructure, supporting all major bands and transmission standards. Our RF power transistor technology is also used in products for the broadcast, avionics and ISM markets. Freescale also provides millimeter wave ICs (MMICs) for cellular infrastructure applications. As a pioneer in RF technology, Freescale was the first to develop RF power transistors in LDMOS technology; the first to implement industry standards in air-cavity ceramic and over-molded plastic packing for RF power devices; -and the first to deliver a 2 GHz discrete RF power transistor in over-molded plastic package capable of a 200 degree Celsius junction temperature.
RF is looking for a Systems Engineer to take the lead role in assessing and understanding Defense Electronics customers? systems and requirements and guiding Freescale?s product R&D teams to develop products and enablement collateral to meet customer needs.
The Systems Engineer will
Interface with customers, representing Freescale with experience, knowledge and authority in end customer system needs and requirements
Author white papers and system application notes to guide customers in utilizing Freescale RF Power products in Military systems
Develop system demonstration boards which will require detailed understanding of end system RF power amplifier operation, peripheral RF components, and the interface to digital functionality
Take a lead role in ?the technical sale?, securing new design wins and new business for Freescale?s RF Military business
BSEE, MSEE or PhD preferred
Minimum 8 years experience in the RF portions of Military/Defense electronic systems, with greatest weight given to Radar (land, ship, airborne, pulsed, phased array, etc).
Experience in Electronic Warfare and/or military communications systems are highly desirable.
Familiarity with how RF subsystems interface and interact with the related digital systems (signal processing, demodulation, A/D conversion, and software) is a plus.
The applicant must have a strong background in several of the following areas:
Defense Radar systems, applications and standards (US and worldwide)
RF power amplifier system level design and implementation
Proficiency in use of RF componentry as used in Radar and other RF-based defense systems (such as mixers, step attenuators, phase shifters, isolators, filters, and antennas). Additionally strong understanding of antenna design and form factors, linearity requirements, spectral purity, and pulse stability. Environmental requirements and effects on performance over the temperature range and techniques that are used to compensate for variation will also be helpful.
Communication system integration experience (defense communications and/or electronic warfare) is a plus
Familiarity with Military/DoD programs, systems and processes
Direct work experience in the US defense industry and familiarity with those environments
Familiarity with how key digital system functionality such as FPGA / DSP programming, data converters (ADCs, DACs), system synchronization, time alignment and power control interact with RF systems
Familiarity with common analog IC functionality and power management components
Good working knowledge of RF component-level and system-level modeling as used by the defense electronics industry
US citizenship and fluency in English
A valid US passport
Frequent travel to customer sites within the US and internationally (25% of the time)
Willingness to sign a DoD ITAR NDA
An active or re-activatible DoD security clearance, or no known barriers to obtaining a first time security clearance
