The Sales Engineer (SE) serves as a technical resource within the Axeda sales team. The SE is responsible for actively managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for our solutions. The SE must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. They must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships with customers and prospects.
The ideal candidate is someone with a technical background that is looking for an opportunity to work directly with customers. They must be self-motivated and comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base. Organized and analytical, the SE must seek to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches. Experience in software development is a plus.
Each SE supports assigned Account Executives (AE) or specific assigned accounts. The SE is a member of the sales organization and reports to the Director of Sales Engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist prospects in executing the technical aspects of the buying process including identifying requirements, solution development, and technology evaluation.
Effectively present technical product information including product features and capabilities, interoperability with other products, and technical competitive product comparisons to both business and technical audiences.
Configure and present custom demonstrations that effectively communicate the value of the Axeda solution to prospects.
Be familiar with the function of complementary products in order to assist the customer in the specification and deployment of a complete solution of which Axeda products are an integral part.
Work within a sales team at existing customers to keep technical teams aware of new product capabilities, seek new opportunities for expanding the use of Axeda technology within the account, and help manage support and professional services interactions.
Assist in the development and implementation of account plans and strategy.
Technical/Professional Knowledge/Skills:
Professionally present the Axeda strategic vision, technology roadmap, and specific product information to all levels of influencers and decision makers within accounts.
Work cooperatively within an account team to manage the customer relationship.
Work closely with technical support, engineering, and other appropriate departments within Axeda to deliver product demonstrations and expedite resolution of technical product issues.
Ability to effectively determine project requirements and correlate them with their business or technical value to the customer
Identify opportunities and competitive threats within an account and help develop strategies to address them.
Provide feedback to sales and product management on customer buying patterns, observed product requirements, and customer environments.
Comfortable in executing the Customer Centric Selling methodology
Provide weekly status reports to keep management updated on overall activities and account progress.
Education and Experience:
College degree required with BS in engineering or computer science preferred
3+ years of industry related work experience in technical support, software development or related area
Minimum of 1year experience in a sales engineer role
Experience with enterprise class software applications and infrastructure, M2M technology, and Software as a Service is highly desirable
Experience in C++, Java, or .NET programming is a plus
Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to adjust message to the technical level of the audience
Able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFIs, and when submitting reports
Able to organize and prioritize work in a multi-tasking environment
Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and have a desire to improve on a daily basis
Ability and willingness to travel - approximately 30-50%
