We currently have attractive opportunities at our center in Alexandria, MN, a service of Douglas County Hospital, for Medical Scheduling Specialist. Position is part-time, 20 hours per week, Mon - Fri 1:30pm - 5:30pm with rotating holidays. Successful candidates will provide services to patients and referring professionals by answering phones, scheduling appointments, cheerfully greeting and registering patients along with performing other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creates a positive experience for every customer, every day
Answers phones & handles calls in a cheerful & timely manner to ensure highest patient satisfaction
Schedules patient examinations according to existing company policy; daily responsibility for calling and scheduling patients for which we have current orders
Pre-certifies all exams with patient?s insurance company as required
Greets and checks-in patients scheduled for imaging services; register demographic information and process payment plans and copays with patients
Checks insurance eligibility and obtains authorization; Verify insurance for same day add-ons
Assist with transferring & lifting patients when needed
Communicates to technologists any scheduling changes in order; Act as liaison between technologists and the patients waiting for exams.
Maintains an up-to-date and accurate database on all current and potential referring physicians
Obtains and enters new referring physician information (communicate to other individuals)
Arranges transportation and hotel accommodations for patients when appropriate
Maintains front office lobby area such as straightening magazines, organizing coffee supplies, and general office clean up
Maintains the supply of patient information sheets

Ability to effectively handle and prioritize multiple tasks, frequent interruptions, and details with accuracy
Ability to maintain regular attendance and on-time arrival to work as scheduled
Ability to deliver high quality customer service to external and internal customers by communicating with knowledge and compassion
Ability to resolve basic service recovery issues and understand when to escalate to next level
Skill in organizing and prioritizing of work, and following assignments through to completion
Skill in written and verbal communication
Skill with data analysis and figure aptitude with a high level of accuracy
Knowledge of basic level computer skills
Knowledge of and adherence to company policies and protocols
Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA and safety guidelines
Minimum ? high school graduate
Strong working knowledge of anatomy / physiology
1-2 years customer service experience
Must be able to handle multi-level phone system with a high volume of calls at one time
Clinical business office experience preferred
Ability to type 50 wpm
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
