This is an exciting opportunity in our Athens, Ohio facility that supports our molecular product development teams and will bring technology closer to the patient bedside, dramatically changing healthcare diagnostics.
The Scientist II supports the development of an automated instrument platform for the molecular detection of human infectious diseases. This will include leading assay development for multiple Real-Time PCR assays as well as providing molecular testing support for engineering efforts related to instrument and consumables development. The Scientist II directs the day-to-day technical activities of lower level technical staff. This position is responsible to the Research and Development management team.
Key activities include:
Design experiments to develop and optimize assays
Provide technical direction and mentoring to technical staff
Works with staff to establish realistic but challenging timelines/priorities and provides follow-up/support on their timely execution.
Summarize experimental data and draw conclusions independently
Provide updates to Management and Project Teams
Maintain project documentation in accordance with internal Quidel and external regulatory requirements as part of the design control process
Ensures communication of all pertinent information to all required levels and presents on overall project status.
Collaborate with internal and external resources, participate on cross-functional teams
MA/MS in Molecular Biology (preferred) or other related life science and/or skills usually associated with 6+ years of relevant industrial experience with demonstrated progressively increasing responsibility or BA/BS in life sciences plus 8 years? experience or Ph.D. in life sciences plus 2 years? experience
Experience in a clinical, diagnostic or equivalent industrial environment is an added bonus but not required
Previous experience developing, optimizing, and validating Real Time PCR assays
Strong leadership skills and the ability to foster strong interpersonal relationships across work groups.
Knowledge of advanced methods for Design Of Experiment and statistical data analysis (JMP, SAS, Excel, GraphPad Prism)
Appropriate computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
Some travel, depending on the projects being supported
