DescriptionDesign and develop commercial application products for high-throughput microfluidic sample preparation platform.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties include but are not limited to:
Design and implement protocols for commercial products that support Fluidigm microfluidic chip and instrument platforms.
Develop and optimize protocols for multiplexed DNA and RNA qPCR
Develop and optimize protocols for multiplexed DNA and RNA sequencing library generation.
Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop new assays and reagent kits for sample preparation applicable to next generation sequencing platforms.
Establish and validate tests to assess complete system performance.
Reagent resourcing, experimental design and analysis, assay proof-of-concept and characterization.
Analyze and present data internally and to the outside scientific community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry with 2-5 years experience or Master?s degree in equivalent majors with 5 years experience required.
Experience in quantitative assay development related to molecular biology and genomics including reverse transcription and cDNA amplification procedures.
Broad experience in standard molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA sample preparation, PCR and quantitative Real-time PCR (qPCR) required.
Hands-on experience in sample preparation for next generation sequencing or microarray platforms preferred. Hands-on experience with Roche (454), Illumina (Solexa), or AB (SOLID) sequencing platforms desirable.
Experience in bioinformatics and statistical data analysis a plus.

Highly motivated and enjoy working as part of a team.
Analytical, have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
Demonstrated independent thought and judgment in experimental design and analysis, method development, and problem-solving.
Thorough and detail-oriented, have excellent organizational and documentation skills.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a high performance start-up environment with special emphasis on commercial product development preferred.
