Scientist/Senior Scientist - Medicinal Chemist Ensemble Discovery
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Ensemble Therapeutics Corporation is conducting original research aimed at identifying
novel macrocycle therapeutic agents for challenging drug discovery targets. We are
currently seeking a full-time Scientist or Senior Scientist level candidate to join our
medicinal chemistry team. In this position you will work with our drug discovery
scientists to contribute to the discovery of novel drug molecules. The ideal candidate will
feel at home in a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary biotech environment, working
independently within a results-focused group.
Responsibilities will include:
? Application of medicinal chemistry principles, interpretation of structure-activity
relationships and other biological data for the design of compounds likely to have
improved target affinity, selectivity and drug-like properties.
? Design of synthetic routes to new compounds, and the application of solid-phase
and solution chemistry for the multistep synthesis of novel macrocyclic
? Purification and analysis of intermediates and final compounds to meet internal
? Working closely in an entrepreneurial, team-oriented environment to advance our
hit-to-lead and lead optimization programs.
? Accurately recording experimental work, summarizing and sharing plans and
presenting results to both internal and external audiences.
? Managing one or two junior associate chemists, setting synthetic targets,
assessing progress against predefined goals and developing their skills and
impact on company objectives.
This position requires a talented medicinal chemist with a sound knowledge of organic
chemistry including experience of modern methods for synthesis, purification and
characterization of small molecules. Experience of small molecule drug design and
medicinal chemistry is essential, and evidence for success in advancing medicinal
chemistry programs will be expected. Prior natural product or macrocycle synthesis
experience would be advantageous but not essential.
? A Ph.D. in organic chemistry with 3-6 year of postdoctoral/industrial experience
? A record of success in the design of new pharmacologically active molecules,
possibly supported by patents and publications.
? Evidence of a talent in designing synthetic routes, and execution of these
approaches to the total synthesis of small molecules, with accompanying
publications in peer reviewed organic chemistry journals. An ability to be
successful in compound synthesis, troubleshooting problematic routes and
delivering required compounds in a timely manner, in suitable yield and purity. ? Excellent, clear and effective oral and written communication skills, interacting
with junior and senior staff and colleagues from different disciplines. Evidence of
strong organizational capabilities.
? Previous experience of managing junior scientific staff, with evidence for
developing talent and enhancing performance through formal reviews and
? The ability to function in a dynamic and interdisciplinary team

About Ensemble Therapeutics
Based in Cambridge, MA, Ensemble Therapeutics Corporation is a venture backed drug
discovery and development company, developing a novel class of therapeutics, called
EnsemblinsTM. Based on their distinctive macrocyclic structures, Ensemblins are able to
address drug targets, including protein-protein interactions, that are currently inaccessible
with conventional small molecule drugs. By combining the company?s proprietary DNA-
-?Programmed Chemistry (DPC?) drug discovery platform with its highly efficient
affinity selection methodology and specialized discrete macrocycle synthesis capabilities,
Ensemble is the first organization to successfully and reliably engineer vast numbers of
diverse synthetic macrocycles for drug discovery, and to rapidly deliver potent
macrocycle leads and lead series across multiple disease areas. Ensemble is pursuing a
business strategy to develop Ensemblins through its own internal programs and through
partnerships such as those with Genentech and Boehringer Ingelheim. Ensemble is
backed by notable venture firms including Flagship Ventures and ARCH Ventures, and is
led by highly experienced Big Pharma and biotechnology veterans.
