The Senior Search Architect/Technical Product Manager will play a critical role as a member of our R&D team. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on person who can step up to optimizing the search technologies behind the 5 Partsearch products. These products are rolling over to a SOLR based search engine and need to be optimized to return the best results to the client in the fastest way possible. This position is located at our offices on Park Avenue in New York City.
Key Job Elements:
- Significant hands on experience/rapid tuning of a search engine in the ecommerce space or use of search in large indexes of technical materials and pictorial based search.
- Proven experience with real world application of semantic tagging in a high volume search environment.
- Must demonstrate positive interpersonal and teamwork skills and be able to work and influence diverse people and teams. Should be comfortable acting as a technical and "best practices" mentor to colleagues, as well as being able to communicate in "layman's" terms to a more business-centric audience.
- Ability to work and communicate with business executive team members as well as engineers who are hands on the project.
- Hands on leader who can serve as the lead for several engineers to design the best search for the parts industry.
- Experience in implementing Endeca or other ecommerce search engines helpful.
- Experience in building linguistic stemming for technical products.
- Outstanding problem solving and debugging skills.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Establish, evangelize, document, and maintain overall search architecture and ensure that it can support future operational and business requirements including scalability for projected increases in transaction volume, number and types of clients, anticipated new functionality, and complexity of data.
- Understand architectural and performance bottlenecks in the existing system and devise solutions and implementation plans to avoid them going forward.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of IT industry experience and hands on coding in server side Java. Knowledge of the .Net environment helpful.
- Background in leading business users through the implementation and tuning of a search engine. Ecommerce search engine preferred.
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required.
- Must possess good interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
- Technical experience: JAVA, XML, Web Services, SQL databases and extensive use of Open Source products.
- Worked in an environment where software was created from scratch to solve clients needs.
