The Security Research Technical Lead is a functional leader and technical liaison who provides guidance and mentoring to other team members while performing many of the same duties. This individual is committed to researching the changing landscape of computer security and building an understanding of the needs, as well as transforming high-level market opportunities and business cases into actionable product plans. The expectation is that this individual would work closely with the User Experience Designers and Architects to support Scrum team?s execution on a daily basis and would have the business and technical savvy to be able work collaboratively to implement solutions.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Drive and integrate security research into Tripwire?s software development process.
Translate product visions, own epic and user story development, groom and keep back log up to date, drive and document acceptance criteria.
Partner with cross-functional team (Product Management, User Experience Design, Product Owners, Software Development and QA). Leverage the security research team (subject matter experts) and provide technical expertise and insight in defining requirements for product enhancements.
Coordinate security content initiatives across product teams (Tripwire Enterprise, Tripwire Log Center, Data Mart).
Includes real world research methods in all phases of the software development process.
Owns the backlog by continuously maintaining and prioritizing stories, epics and associated acceptance criteria based on business value and ROI.
Organizes and facilitates meetings with external customers and internal stakeholders to investigate and identify customer needs, preferences, and priorities. Communicates and promotes important research data from customer interactions as part of the product development process.
Provides project management and oversight. Follows up with cross-functional teams on system impact and feasibility for tasks, nominations and issues raised. Defines goals and fix targets for hot-fixes and service packs.
Clearly communicates to all stakeholders on goals and get feedback on how their area might be impacted. Consult with system domain experts on affected areas.
Leverages an understanding of customer needs and workflow processes to propose strategic enhancements to products.
Apply independence and creativity to problem solving across project assignments.

Working independently, the Security Research Technical Lead resolves a wide range of diverse problems utilizing personal judgment and experience to develop solutions in a creative manner. Interacts with employees at all levels of the organization and takes personal responsibility for meeting the needs of the customer while demonstrating an understanding of business objectives.
Authority to act within defined policies within the area of expertise/knowledge as directed. Effectively communicates research findings to the organization and develops plans for implementation. Determines necessary resources required and develops goals and metrics for function.
No formal supervision.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Bachelor degree in Business, Information Technology or related field with 8+ years of experience working in a Security Research function on software projects.
Partners with cross-functional team to understand matrixed dependencies in schedules and deliverable expectations.
Demonstrated organizational savvy with the ability to predict impacts, avoid derailments and pursue actions that are likely to succeed.
Shares information to gain common commitment and understanding in achieving objectives. Proven ability to compare and contrast own company's 'how to get things done' to other organizations as well as identify key players and potential actions for high-impact, sensitive situations or issues.
Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills. Must have the professional polish and poise to communicate at a level appropriate to the audience (customers, staff, peers and senior management).
Effectively communicates with staff, with peers across the department, with peers outside of our group and to senior management. Is able to break down complex technical concepts into easy, understandable terms and effectively communicate appropriate to audience
Software development life cycle and project management experience.
Excellent facilitation, negotiation and consensus building abilities.
Experience working in an Agile product development environment. Experience in authoring User Stories, Back Log grooming and defining acceptance criteria.
Knowledge of UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems and security.
Real world IT security experience.
Hands-on Security Operations Center experience preferred.
Familiarity with IT audit, artifacts, and audit workflow.
Preference: CISSP, CISA, GCIH, GIAC L4.
Experience with one or more of the following compliance domains: PCI, CIS, DISA, HIPAA, COBIT, ISO 27001, GLBA, FFIEC, SOX, NERC, NIST 800-53/FISMA, Standard of Good Practice.
Technical skills in variety of operating systems, networking, database technologies, auditing, authentication, encryption, security protocols.
