Job Responsibilities Summary
We are currently searching for a highly motivated, energetic individual who is ready to roll up their sleeves and add value quickly to a small accounting team in our Cambridge office. The Senior Accountant will be a key contributor on the Finance team and will work closely with the Controller and CFO and should have a team-oriented and hands-on work style. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for various accounting activities essential to the financial reporting and general financial operations of Cytel Inc. The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Manage the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close process. Own and document many aspects of the process including: facilitate and execute timely completion of general ledger account reconciliations, review monthly expenses and prepare preliminary financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Perform financial analysis to explain fluctuations on a month to month basis.
Facilitate cash management activities, apply customer payments and reconcile cash-on-hand to bank accounts daily.
Assist in building better internal controls for the finance department and the company as a whole.
Oversee sales tax compliance and ensure the firm is compliant nationwide.
Mentor junior staff members.
Assist in annual budget process.
Assist with a system conversion project.
Assist with annual audits and tax filings.
Special projects as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
4-7 years experience in an accounting or finance team. Software and Services industry is a plus.
Technical general ledger accounting and month end close experience.
Organized, analytical self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills, detail oriented, adaptable and comfortable working both in a team and independently.
Ability to multi-task in a dynamic work environment.
Experience with QuickBooks Accounting Systems and system conversion projects is a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word and Outlook.
Positive attitude with a good sense of humor.
