Under the general direction of Engineering management, serve as a senior-level member of a design team providing preliminary and detail stress analysis of airframe structural elements. Primary product lines for design activities will be unmanned aerial vehicles, modification of existing aircraft structures, fixed and rotary wing, and design-to-build activities for commercial and military aircraft including composite and metallic structure, mechanical system components/routings and electrical/avionics systems component installations.
Familiar with industry standards for the manufacture, repair and assembly of composite components for aerospace.
Experience with engineering and/or manufacturing development of structural parts and assemblies utilizing composite materials
Experience with the composite part detail process, including composites stacking sequence, lamination theory, honeycomb core, bonded assemblies, manufacturing assembly and fabrication processes, post-cure machining operations.
Requires an in-depth knowledge of the characteristics of composite materials and the methods used to evaluate their response when employed as structural elements
Experiencing mentoring other analysts strongly beneficial.
Experience with FAA DER certification a plus
Experience with CATIA V5 or Unigraphics is a plus.
Specific Responsibilities:
Working with airframe design engineers, develop load paths and airframe structural configuration layouts, conduct preliminary sizing of airframe structures utilizing metallic and composite materials
Perform structural analysis of primary and secondary structures (e.g., modeling, static, fatigue, damage tolerance, etc.)
Interface with design engineers, manufacturing engineers and internal management
Perform Material Review Board and engineering liaison activities
Conduct airframe structural analysis using hand calculations and/or finite element analysis methods such as NASTRAN
Create and develop load cases used in analyzing airframe structures
Prepare documentation to support design decisions and to resolve issues
Assist the project engineer in preparing for technical interchange meetings and technical program reviews
Participate in failure investigations
Provide guidance and mentorship to other analysts.
Minimum Requirements (education and experience):
4 year engineering degree from an accredited university (BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar)
10 years? work experience in the aerospace industry
5 year?s experience with NASTRAN
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
