Senior Cardiovascular Clinical Liaison BG Medicine

The Senior Cardiovascular Clinical Liaison (Sr CVCL) is a trained healthcare professional who will present BG Medicine and its products to key opinion leaders (KOLs), other clinicians, academic institutions, and other key stakeholders. The Sr CVCl will be the primary interface between BG Medicine and the US field-based, contract CVCL group. These CVCLs, together with the Sr CVCL, will address the specific needs of these audiences by providing them with the most current medical and research findings regarding BG Medicine?s products. In addition, the CVCLs will respond to unsolicited requests for information, insights, and recommendations about BG Medicine?s marketed products and development projects (escalating to the Sr CVCl, as appropriate), and will be responsible for tactically implementing BG Medicine?s Medical Affairs strategies, in order to deliver value.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Directly, and via the contract CVCL group, professionally and effectively represent BG Medicine and its Medical Affairs organization by identifying, developing, and maintaining collaborative relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), other clinicians and researchers, academic institutions, professional organizations, and managed care medical directors and other key healthcare professional (HCP) stakeholder groups.
Act as the primary BG Medicine interface and liaison with the US field-based, contract CVCL group. Work closely with this group and the assigned vendor Program Director to ensure appropriate content of messaging delivered by CVCLs and targeting of appropriate national, regional and local KOLs and other key HCPs. With Program Director, develop, oversee and participate in training (initial and on-going) for CVCL group. Mentor and travel with CVCLs, as necessary.
Stay informed of current medical literature related to BG Medicine?s products, together with relevant clinical trends, and new or emerging treatment to maximize timely and relevant information exchange between the company and the medical community.
Develop, as necessary, and deliver fair-balanced and objective clinical and scientific presentations (in 1:1 or group settings) to appropriate KOLs and other HCPs to ensure their continued awareness and understanding of current medical and research findings regarding BG Medicine?s products.
Attend national and regional medical meetings and symposia as a representative of BG Medicine and engage in discussions with attendees, as appropriate, attend scientific sessions and poster presentations, gather information, and summarize findings. As appropriate, cultivate new professional relationships from these contacts.
Identify and train speakers for symposia and other educational programs, with BG Medicine approved materials, slides sets, abstracts, posters, etc.
In collaboration with Medical Affairs leadership, organize and conduct regional initiatives, such as group meetings, to ensure continued awareness and understanding by appropriate HCPs of current medical and research findings regarding BG Medicine?s products.
In collaboration with Medical Affairs leadership, respond to unsolicited requests from HCPs for information, insights, and recommendations about BG Medicine?s marketed products and development projects.
Provide input to BG Medicine management on KOL and other customer feedback regarding BG Medicine?s products, development projects and business development opportunities.
Facilitate the submission to Medical Affairs of applications for unrestricted educational grants or research initiatives and requests for support of specific studies, per company policy.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Complies with all appropriate government and regulatory guidelines/policies.
Ensures that all activities and interactions of CVCL group comply with BG Medicine?s business policies and operating procedures and Medical Affairs operating practices.
Establishes and maintains peer-to-peer relationships with KOLs and other key stakeholders.
Supports Medical Affairs objectives and activities, with a focus on the tactical execution of clinical education and providing medical information regarding BG Medicine?s products.
Demonstrates clinical expertise and has a working knowledge of current medical practice in the areas of heart failure, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular (CV) diagnostics and other areas of CV medicine, as appropriate.
Serves as a clinical and medical resource for BG Medicine?s field sales organization and business partners, accurately answering any customer requested medical questions.
Identifies new and strategic medical opportunities and customers that lead to impactful results in the region.
Supports and ensures appropriate execution of regional medical meetings.
Collaborates with Medical Affairs leadership when identifying and communicating education/research needs.
Organizational Relationships/Scope:
Position reports to Vice President, Medical Affairs
Direct interface with contract CVCL Program Director and other members of vendor management team
Works with other BG Medicine stakeholder functions (e.g.: sales, marketing, quality and compliance, field sales), as required
Working Conditions:
Ideally based in New England (Boston area preferred)
Able to travel up to 50%
Educational Requirements:
PharmD, Nurse Practitioner, MD or other advanced medical/life science degree, ideally with clinical expertise in cardiovascular medicine and/or patient care.
Experience:
10+ Years Medical Science Liaison or other relevant pharmaceutical/medical diagnostic industry-related experience
MSL management experience (or equivalent supervisory experience of field-based medical team)
CV therapeutic/diagnostic experience with medical affairs, clinical research, product development, and business and market knowledge.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Demonstrated people management skills, in field-based setting
Knowledge and experience in HF/CV therapeutic areas.
Previous pharmaceutical/diagnostic industry experience.
Understanding of clinical practice and decision-making regarding patient care.
Ability to identify unmet CV medical, educational, and research needs within the regional medical community.
Interpretation of key scientific data and ability to translate this information to meet informational, educational and research needs.
Demonstrated ability to address educational and research needs through delivery of scientific/ evidenced-based medical data.
Understanding of healthcare systems affecting patient care.
Understand the design and execution of research studies.
Exemplary communication and presentation skills.
Ability to think strategically.
