It is currently the only U.S. automaker that builds and sells highway-capable EVs in serial production. Palo Alto, California-based Tesla designs and manufactures EVs and EV powertrain components. Tesla has delivered more than 1,600 Roadsters to customers in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific Region. Model S, the first premium sedan to be built from the ground up as an electric vehicle, goes on the market in mid-2012.

Tesla is seeking an experienced and talented technical illustrator who can translate vehicle photographs and CAD drawings into high-quality shaded illustrations for use in both owner's manuals and marketing literature. This person will be based in the HQ â€" Deer Creek, Palo Alto office reporting directly to the Sr. Manager Parts and Distribution. Additionally, this person will work closely with the Model S Engineering team, and the Tesla 3rd Party technical Publications team to identify and illustrate key owner's manual and marketing literature functionalities.

Skills include:

• We require an excellent communicator who can review requirements from cross-functional teams, integrating those ideas and providing win-win solutionsAbility to create clear, consistent, highly legible illustrations for manuals, Internet, etc.
• This person will be required to visit manufacturing sites to view equipment, tools, parts and become intimately familiar with all necessary components.
• Project management skills are essential as this person will be required to execute multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines
• This person will be required to have a strong eye for detail, design and execute/deliver precise, accurate, and clear presentations
• We are seeking a passionate individual who possesses an understanding for user experience, usability and clarity in design
• Work with 3rd party Technical Publications team and drive solutions.
• Illustrations will be displayed on an in-vehicle display system, IPad, web sites, and in various online and printed documents. The candidate must be an advanced user of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. The ability to use 3D tools to convert CAD data into marketing illustrations is a definite plus. A good communicator is critical here to talk to designers, technical authors, and engineers to gain a better understanding of the product and to create ideas to suit multiple outputs. Quality is unparalleled, Must be able to showcase successful projects, preferably of a similar nature.
• Technical writing is a plus, such as being able to provide XML and HTML 5 output for display on multiple platforms, setting up and implementing a structured authoring environment in real-time while producing final deliverables, and familiarity with all aspects of the documentation life cycle, from planning to production, is essential for success.
