Senior Corporate Counsel Amyris Biotechnologies
Amyris is building an integrated renewable products company using breakthrough science and an innovative business model to address some of our planet?s most daunting problems. Amyris first developed its technology under a non-profit initiative to provide a reliable and affordable source of artemisinin, a highly effective anti-malarial therapeutic and is now applying its industrial synthetic biology platform to provide alternatives to a broad range of petroleum-sourced products. Amyris No Compromise? renewable fuels and chemicals are being designed to perform comparably to, or better than, the products they will replace.
Amyris seeks an experienced commercial and transactional attorney able to assume primary responsibility for selected areas of legal representation, reporting to the General Counsel. The attorney will work closely with members of Amyris? in-house legal team, outside counsel, and multiple client groups.
The candidate should be passionate about new technologies and have significant experience drafting and negotiating complex transactions for biotech/life sciences, industrial chemical and/or consumer products companies. He/she must be able to manage complex transactions with extensive patent and know-how licensing components and also have familiarity with joint ventures, strategic partnering and collaboration arrangements. The candidate should demonstrate an ability to manage less complex deals, such as manufacturing, distribution and supply arrangements, independently. The attorney may also be involved in managing and negotiating government research grants and supply agreements. Like all Amyris attorneys, he/she will be willing to pitch in wherever necessary in meeting Amyris? ambitious goals and must be flexible and willing to work extended hours when necessary to complete projects in a timely fashion. The ideal candidate will be comfortable doing a significant amount of original drafting, with minimal support from outside counsel, and will be interested in learning about complex technology and the business and legal norms of foreign jurisdictions.
In addition to transactional duties, the candidate should be comfortable supporting and interpreting existing company collaborations, obligations and policies, and educating clients and colleagues. The right candidate will be comfortable providing discrete legal advice on regulatory issues, sales and marketing, and alliance management. Providing strategic business and legal advice to develop a comprehensive, long-term approach to our relationships with key partners is essential.
