The Role

The Senior Cost Estimator will assist the Purchasing Manager with strategic sourcing, Engineering interfaces, issuing and evaluating RFQs, commercial negotiations and cost reduction opportunities. He or she will also develop the cost estimating process and establish priorities and process tools for the cost estimating team.

Responsibilities

• With Purchasing, review, analyze and clarify quote packages from suppliers. Identify cost reduction opportunities by analyzing raw material, purchased parts and processing costs.
• Recommend tools (software, etc) and internal processes to develop and mature the cost estimating skill set within the Purchasing organization.
• Negotiate cost changes related to product design changes.
• Work with Engineering to optimize costs during the design stage of product development.
• Work on “Lean†initiatives and identify other sourcing efficiencies via benchmarking, VA/VE, competitive quotes and re-sourcing.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree minimum, engineering degree preferred.
• 3-5 yrs cost estimating / purchasing background.
• Automotive background preferred.
• Manufacturing experience in area of placement required.
• Open-minded self starter with the ability to adapt, improvise and problem solve.
• Strong Excel background.
• Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects, with various teams including engineers and supply chain personnel.
• Good negotiation, written and verbal skills.
• Team player and with strong interpersonal skills.
