Responsibilities @ Yummly
As a Senior Culinary Software Engineer - Search, Data & Systems, you will work on the core of the system: the food database; search; APIs; web crawling; ad serving; and much more. You may be asked to make the recipe search scale 10x; to build a web crawler that will find every recipe in the world; to collect and analyze fine-grained user-behavior metrics; to build automated testing and deployment tools; and to extend our AWS-based cloud infrastructure to scale seamlessly and to serve worldwide traffic. You should be self-motivated and creative, with a passion for quality. We value collaboration: you should be able to communicate openly and clearly and be ready to give and receive constructive criticism.
We write our code in Clojure, Java, and whatever else fits the problem best. We use PostgreSQL, Solr/Lucene, hadoop, and most AWS services. We believe in using the right tool for the job, in writing good elegant code, in design before implementation, and in thinking before doing. If these sound right to you, you don?t need to know all the tools we use, but you should be willing and able to learn quickly (and to teach us the tools and techniques you love).
About You
We?re looking for passionate, food obsessed, experienced engineers to build our next generation site. We'd like someone that has a lot of these skills/qualities:
You build scalable, fast web applications
You have experience building search engines
You have experience with web crawling
You are well-rounded and don't mind working on front-end, analytics, and infrastructure
You have experience with, or would like to learn:
Natural language processing
Large-scale data processing and analysis
Machine learning
Automated testing and deployment
You are also a good mobile developer (iOS or Android)
You want to work on something you love
You think big and do big
You can solve the biggest, most difficult problems
You want autonomy, freedom, and ownership of your work
You have a good sense of humor
