DUTIES: Initiate and execute new research projects to develop new and innovative algorithms and technologies and apply them to a large-scale distributed system built on Apache Hadoop. Design and develop search technology to understand business data utilizing Linux, memcached, Java, Python, C++, JSON, MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB and Lucene. Perform applied research for business opportunities. Analyze data, identify problems and potential customers, and devise and build solutions using best software development practices based on Agile methodologies. Stay abreast of newly published state-of-the-art algorithms and competing technologies. Apply advanced knowledge of complex machine learning?based information retrieval systems to design and implement high-scale (100M+ items) search and indexing systems with low latency responses. Work in both managed datacenters and cloud environments to build and operate new products and features, including large-scale, high-traffic Web applications and customer-facing Web services, for the Publisher Platform area of the online advertising platform. Be an ?end-to-end owner? of software services spanning technology boundaries. Translate business requirements into technical designs and project plans. Write production-ready code and unit tests that meet both system and business requirements as part of test driven development. Help support operation of services in production. Respond to feature requests, bug reports, performance issues and ad-hoc questions. Work with multiple teams to deliver quality software.
REQUIREMENTS: PhD in Computer science, Machine Learning, Algorithms or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or as a Senior Software Engineer/Architect, or a related position. Experience must include: building and operating large-scale, high-traffic Web applications and customer-facing Web services in both managed datacenters and Amazon EC2 +RightScale cloud environments; designing and implementing high scale (100M+ items) search and indexing systems with low latency responses; machine learning-based information retrieval systems; Linux, Apache, memcached, Java, Spring, Hibernate, Python, Django, C++, JSON, MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Lucene, Solr, Hadoop; test-driven development. In lieu of a PhD and 2 years of experience, the employer will accept a Master?s degree and 5 years of experience.
OTHER: Job Site: Los Angeles CA; Salary: $150,000.00 per year; 40 hours per week.
