Senior Data Engineer Goodreads

Goodreads is looking for a talented data engineer to help us make our site better by providing the business with the information it needs to better serve users.This is an exciting and dynamic role in a well funded, rapidly growing company with excellent opportunity for career growth. Goodreads is a US Top 100 site and the 7th largest social networking site. The analytics team will be critical to our growth. Since we're just getting started analytically this is the perfect opportunity to build something great from the ground up.
The ideal candidate will be strong technically but also understand analytics and how data are used to make decisions. Having experience in the consumer internet and in social media is a definite plus.
Responsibilities:
Understand what data are needed and work with developers to ensure it is captured correctly
Develop the ELT/ETL layer that takes site data and creates the data structures that can help answer critical business questions
Create processes that enable us to quickly create new data structures as business needs change
Be the expert when it comes to our data and educate users on the proper use of our data
Design processes to proactively monitor for data quality issues
Identify data quality issues and work with engineering to resolve them
Desired Skills and Experience:
Extensive experience with SQL and relational databases
Experience with Hadoop, especially Pig and Hive
Some experience with a language such as Ruby or Python for scripting
Familiarity with Tableau is a definite plus
Analytical thinking - you should have some understanding of how the data will be consumed
An understanding of how web sites are developed
