The Senior Database Administrator - DBA - Primary responsibilities of this role would include owning,
tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within
SLAs, creating/reviewing service related reports (e.g: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily
basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs. Also responsible for
responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with Voice, IT and Network Engineering to
come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems and on the design, implementation, configuration,
administration and support of all systems, data and databases used to support MTN?s Customer and Corporate
Voice platforms, backbone and billing services.
This role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of urgency, responsiveness and ownership of the
problems and requests assigned.
? Responsible for all aspects involving the Porta-One/MVTS platforms and Corporate PBXs.
? Responsible for data extraction, transformation, integration, validation, allocation and reporting of revenues
and metrics and for building revenue forecasting models, analysis of breakage, unearned balances, credits,
expiration of accounts, activations and top ups for our pre and postpaid Voice Services customers.
? Responsible for producing reports and alerts to detect fraud or misallocation of revenues or costs; suggest
proper Least Call Routing methods and for building automated processes to facilitate the administration of
such ongoing initiatives and its related quality metrics ? KPIs.
? Responsible for uploading vendor rate tables in a timely manner and with precision.
? Responsible for building and maintaining automated tools to track and alert on the quality of our systems
and call routes offered to our customers. Proactively monitor, measure and alert of Average Call Duration,
ASR, PDD, call disconnect codes and etc.
? Manage vendor relationships, monitoring and enforcing Service Level Agreements (SLA) and contracted
terms, commitments and conditions.
? Supports 24x7 business critical platforms and accounts.
? Will rotate as On-Call person in support of these services.
? Other duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
? BA or BS in a technical field or equivalent experience required. Master degree desirable.
? Has 8+ years of experience in database development and support in My SQL Server environments.
? Experience with Oracle (desired), MS SQL (desired), and MySQL Databases (required).
? Extensive Unix/Linux Development and Administration experience required.
? Extensive knowledge of Telephony concepts desired.
? Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP and general network theory required.
? Ability to work independently under general guidance and deliver results ? required.

? Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and
deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc ? required.
? Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and
other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools ? required.
? Ability to detect and troubleshoot My SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource
contention ? required.
? Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, Clustering, Database
mirroring and Replication ? required.
? Expert experience in implementing operational automation - required.
? Strong knowledge of indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. How statistics
work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively ? required.
? SQL Development ? ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procs, functions, tables,
views, triggers, indexes, constraints ) ? required.
? Documentation skills for processes and procedures ( creating runbooks, topology and etc ) ? required.
? Experience in developing architectural and interface designs through interaction with Systems Engineering,
Software Engineering, Firmware, and other subsystem domains and teams ? required.
? Proficiency in developing and executing system integration and performance characterization plans and then
executing these through virtual simulation and real test scenarios. This includes the creation of tests methods
with appropriate scripting languages and tools ? required.
? Sencha Framework, Ruby, Perl, Java Scripting, C expert level skills highly desirable.
? Experience with CODEC G.711, G.722, G.729, and signaling Protocol MGCP, SIP, H.323, SCCP and
Asterisk 1.2 -1.6 and newer ? highly desirable.
? Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to explain complex subjects in simple but accurate terms.
? Ability to work under pressure with aggressive deadlines.
NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS: This position reports to Director of Voice Systems. Interacts with all
Internal departments and with Customers and Equipment Vendors as necessary.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: Must be able to use a standard keyboard and read small LCD and CRT
screens. Some domestic/international travel may be required. Must be able to lift and carry rack-mounted
equipment of various sizes and weights up to approximately 40lbs.
