We're looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable database developer/analyst to help not just find the hidden correlations in how people use the web, but to turn that data into real products that will continue to push Demand Media to the forefront of the industry.
Responsibilities:
- Ingest huge datasets, design efficient queries to run on them, and export the results as needed to evaluate relationships between these various sources. We want to discover connections between web search results, social media interactions, and web page rankings.
- These very large data sets will include all web searches, all web pages, all tweets, etc. Then, this expert will run analyses searching for correlations
- Develop back end for web-based tools using the results of that data analysis to allow users to evaluate proposed article titles
- Work on a small team of highly motivated people to propose and deliver innovative, exciting software solutions
- Contribute to problem solving and brainstorming of possible new products and solutions
- Work to improve the efficiency and functionality of existing software solutions
- 2+ years of professional software development experience
- 2+ years developing Web applications, primarily on the server-side/back-end
- Strong data modeling skills (SQL, NoSQL, mongoDB, hadoop, etc.)
- Experience developing and scaling applications with AWS EC2/S3/EMR
- Strong data modeling skills (SQL, NoSQL, mongoDB, hadoop, etc.)
- Proficiency with cloud hosting platforms and a strong ability to assess tools given project requirements
- Python expertise preferred: tornado, cherrypy, ski-kit learn (or other machine learning tools), nltk (or other NLP tools)
- Experience with nginx preferred
