Senior DBA Black Arrow
BlackArrow is looking for an experienced operations MySQL database engineer who will play a major role in the architecture, design, implementation, operations and maintenance of the company?s database infrastructure. These primarily Linux-based environments support both BlackArrow?s internal stakeholders as well as its customers, which include major cable, telecom, and television programming companies.
Responsibilities:
Participate as a key member in the Architecture and Performance Team
Bring DBA expertise and best practices to scale and optimize the data base services
Manage MySQL in production/QA/dev environments including installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades, schema changes, etc.
Perform database health monitoring and diagnostics
Implement monitoring, auditing, and alert systems for MySQL databases
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with MySQL
Design, implement, maintain and automate the appropriate backup and recovery architecture required
Architect, design, implement and maintain site to site data replication for DRP
Work with various teams for performance tuning and optimization, query optimization, index tuning, caching, buffer tuning, etc.
Able to perform capacity planning exercises to properly identify required hardware, software, database configuration/architecture necessary to support application needs
Data modeling, schema design and review
Create processes to ensure data integrity and identify potential data errors
Document and update procedures and processes
On Call for Critical issues
Other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
7+ years total database experience
At least 5 years of experience as a MySQL DBA or a combination of MySQL and Oracle DBA in a high volume, high impact transactional environment
At least 5 years of experience with high volume MySQL database administration and in the following areas:
Replication
High availability (HA)
Load balancing
Query optimization
Schema design disaster recovery
Experience with optimizing and supporting large multi-terabyte data warehouse environment
Experience in administration of InnoDB and MyISAM table types
Strong understanding of Linux operating system, storage solutions, networking (particularly TCP/IP), security, and web servers
Experience with database performance tuning, DRP, backup and recovery, system architecture and Data Base & Schema design as well as high availability concepts
Strong change management experience ? able to propose and deliver new processes for managing change of a complex data warehouse environment
Ability to develop procedures, processes and conventions to standardize database operations
Ability to work cooperatively with software engineers and system administrators
Strong SQL programming skills
Strong programming and scripting skills such as:
Shell, Perl and/or Python scripting.
XML
Exceptional problem-solving expertise and attention to detail
Superb self-management skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Good attitude, motivated to learn and can pick things up quickly on their own
Preferred Qualifications or Skills:
Experience with ?Big Data?: Hadoop, HBase, Solr.
Experience with Cloud based systems or Virtual environments (VMWare, EC2, XEN)
Familiar with ETL processes and data warehouse maintenance operations
Strong experience with database administration work on a commercial strength database platform in a mission critical context
Previous exposure to Tomcat, JBOSS or other J2EE compliant application servers in a 3-tier production environment
Familiar with business processes around finance, billing, customer relationship management or ads
Familiar with working in a SOC/SOX-compliant environment and how to design/ follow procedures as well as write documentation to maintain compliance
