The Senior DevOps/DBA Engineer position provides the opportunity to join the iovation IT team that is responsible for the availability and scalability of our SaaS Reputation Manager? fraud prevention system which is continually accessible by our customers. The Senior DevOps/DBA Engineer position reports to the Director, IT & Product Operations and works to ensure 100% uptime and rapidly scale as we continue to acquire new customers and scale our systems. As the successful candidate, you must be a self-starter with a passion for exposure to new technologies and ability to expand your skills and knowledge. Our work environment is fast-paced and duties and priorities shift quickly. To be successful with us, you must be flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities while managing your existing project priorities.
Position Responsibilities and Requirements
As a seasoned ops expert, not only will you be responsible for keeping our systems up and running, you will also have the ability to shape the operations management product you wish you had at your last job. Help us build great tools and a thriving DevOps culture.
You have worked in operations for a major online service before. It doesn?t matter whether you were responsible for keeping the lights on at Google or MyStartup.com. What does matter is that you?ve experienced the 4 a.m. service-wide outage and the heart-in-your-mouth feeling while you rush to get everything back up. You?ve also experienced the joy of watching your service stay up while a datacenter goes black thanks to carefully architected infrastructure.
You have pulled back the covers and know how this Internet thing works end-to-end. Networks, servers, code, protocols, query optimization, disks: to you nothing is a ?black-box.? If necessary, you can debug performance problems through the whole stack.
Like the name implies, you know that a great DevOps Engineer is just as comfortable writing code as they are provisioning hardware. You subscribe to the theory that operations engineering is about writing software to manage machines, and the thought of ssh?ing directly to a machine to adjust a configuration file strikes you as?distasteful. You therefore have extensive knowledge of at least one configuration management system, such as Puppet (preferred), Chef, or cfengine. You have deep knowledge of a scripting language (e.g. Ruby, Python, Perl), and ideally, have contributed code to an open source project, even better if you are an active steward of one.
You consider improving the efficiency of the engineering team to be a key responsibility of the operations group. Continuous integration, push button deployment, real-time dashboards and centralized logging aren?t just ?nice to have,? rather they are massively critical pieces of infrastructure that rapidly pay for themselves. You are deeply familiar with the tool space and can suggest products/projects in each of these areas.
